Skills and experience

As Head of Property for Zurich Canada, Yvonne Steiner leads the development and delivery of our property strategy, building on Zurich’s strength as an industry leader. She oversees a team of property underwriters in Commercial Property, Energy, Construction and Marine; all tasked with using their expertise to sustainably grow our business in Canada and enhance our marketplace presence with customers and brokers. Prior to joining Zurich, Steiner was Head of Global Specialty Lines for RSA Canada and board member for RSAIA Inc., where she was responsible for the operational, trading and underwriting operations for the Risk Managed segmentation of Commercial Insurance. Her background in brokerage operations, risk management and underwriting also includes 11 years at Swiss Re, working both in the international market on a single-risk basis (specialising in Natural Resources and Rail); and in Canada, where she served as Head of Property & Energy until 2018. Steiner also previously held roles of increasing responsibility at GCAN Insurance Company (formerly Gerling Global) and Finning International Inc.

Educational background

Steiner holds the CRM Designation in Risk Management from the University of Toronto. She studied international relations and economic development at the University of Toronto and University of British Columbia, and received her CIP, Marine Specialist Designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada. Steiner has honorary accreditation and membership with the Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters and previously held a Level 2 Broker License from the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia.
